About jeremystephens
I am a redeemed follower, basking in the knowledge that in my insufficiency I have been made sufficient, in my weakness I have been made strong, and in my searching I have been found. I am attempting to use the borrowed gifts I have been granted to their fullest potential, recognizing that I need not worry about where the credit for them goes, or where their power comes from. I am an adopted child in a universal family, connected through worship and unified in purpose, falling in passion-drenched captivation at the feet of a Father, by the sacrifice of a Son, in the power of a Spirit.

Why Every Christian Should (Legally) Support Gay Marriage
After the passionate back-and-forth on the news yesterday, with the looming possibility of federal legislation on the issue of same sex marriage, I quietly logged into my account, and with a few clicks of the mouse replaced that picture of my gorgeous wife with one of a simple red background...

An Open Letter to Grace and Megan Phelps-Roper
Dear Megan and Grace, I understand, in I’m sure a merely limited way, you have left Westboro Baptist Church behind. I also understand that this means, for both of you, that you have left your family behind. I want to first and foremost commend you both for the courage it...

The Misguided Theology of Ray Lewis
There is a reason that I typically don’t write about current events. First of all, the truths we can learn from the events occurring in our world are truths that have been openly touted for centuries. “There is nothing new under the sun,” as the writer of Ecclesiastes tells us....

    Love Is All You Need
The Beatles once told us that “all you need is love.” And, for many Christians that have experienced the more dogmatic and often-hypocritical parts of the history of the church during the past twenty years, a return to that simple truth is a breath of fresh air. Didn’t Jesus tell...

Aberrance and Coherence, Giraffes and God
As a kid, I used to spend vast amounts of time watching movies that were inappropriate. I have a fear of clowns to this day from watching the movie “It” when I was eight. I have a fear of birds to this day from watching the movie “The Birds” when...

What House Church Is to Me
There was a moment a few weeks ago when I looked out across my living room, guitar in hand, and watched Spirit bring people to their knees. Others were dancing, some were praying, some may have been a bit distracted by other things, but in that moment I had the...

King Lion and Fearful Hare (A Fable)
It is widely known that Lion is the King of all within the forest. Yet what is less widely known is that Lion once prowled the grounds alongside several quieter and more impoverished-looking animals. Following his every step across the leaf-riddled forest floor were Hare, Turtle, Crow, and nine other...

    The Habit of Shabbat
Rest is good. We are creatures with a desire to rest built into our systems. Sure, many of us choose to ignore this part of our design, and would rather fill the Sabbath times with as many distractions as possible. But sooner or later, running our bodies like this will...

    Does God Laugh?, Part 2
There are plenty of reasons to laugh at Stephen Colbert. I typically get most of my news from either him or Jon Stewart. My thinking on this is that they actually do report the news…the difference is they make it palatable by using humor. They add a bit of sugar...

Choose To Not Choose Your Own Adventure
One of my favorite things to do as a kid was run off to the convenience store down from my neighborhood, search through the little book section they had, and find all of the Choose Your Own Adventure books that I could get my hands on. I would always sit...
