07 Apr 2012I heard an interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu recently. In it he talked about the ongoing deep work that is needed as South Africa moves from Apartheid and three centuries of oppression and domination of people with white skin over people with black skin. Krista Tippet, the interviewer, posed the...

23 Feb 2012Kindness. Kindness, one could say, is one of the ways love paints itself on the world. An act of kindness can be imprinted on our lives and impact us for years to come. In honor of this season of love, I remember moments of kindness. And in remembering I notice...Archived in Poetry

22 Jan 2012Amazement looks like a six-year-old girl, twirling ’round, blond ringlets elongated as they spin, arms outstretched, face lifted to the heavens. Amazement tastes like the warmth of a summer peach, melting on my tongue. Amazement sounds like the communal breath, held, as the final note of the Hallelujah Chorus rings...Archived in Art

31 Oct 2011“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.” When I hear these familiar lines, I’m drawn to the second-half of the equation. Let’s talk about the dancing and this joy-filled clothing. “You brought me up from the grave, you spared me from going down into...Archived in Now Spirituality

Kim, Thank you for this post. It moved me deeply and speaks so clearly and powerfully. I have a deep love for adoption and hope it will be part of forming my family when that time comes. Your story is such a reminder to me of how that love of caring for children goes far beyond the ones we get to snuggle and bond with. It also holds up accountability about one's own motivations and ability to engage in the reality of painful situations. I appreciate you naming the loss and the injustice alongside the precious gifts of adoption. Blessings on your work in the world, AnnaPreventing Adoption

Hello Donna, Thank you for your kind comment! I agree, this work of noticing and naming the contradictions inside is ongoing. I keep finding things that point to it throughout scripture and life. I do not have a book, yet... but I do strive to blog at least semi-regularly. You can find my work both here on provoketive and also at my personal website at: annawoofenden.com Blessings, AnnaHoly Week Contradictions

Thank you for this powerful message! I am noticing that the more I learn about other paths and religions, the more sensitive I am to any language that seems to "one-up" "our" God to someone else's. The amazing thing to me is noticing that my awareness of God just keeps getting bigger and bigger as I see more and more ways that God manifest in people's lives and various religions. Thanks for sharing these insights and stirring my mind and heart.Jesus Is A Buddha
