The Author

Coenraad is a husband, man, worshipper, disciple, sports fanatic, musician as well as a very loyal friend. I write about my daily challenges and topics most people struggle with within their daily walk of faith. I am a huge believer in the power of the Second Chance, and try my utmost to live a life of giving second chances, since I receive them on a daily basis from God.

I also don't believe in the status quo, and my life speaks of going against this. Having worked in Software Development for 10 years, I felt a call to step out in faith and to go into full-time ministry. I gave up many comforts, but God has been true to His word, and I have yet to encounter a month where me and my family don't have enough food or clothes to wear. God blesses us on a daily basis, beyond anything we can imagine.

Place yourself into the position of the soldiers that went to battle alongside Gideon. You are part of the biggest army that the nation of Israel has ever been able to assemble, and you are going to defend your nation against these enemies that seemingly never stop coming to attack your nation.

All of a sudden Gideon comes from some quiet time, and he tells half of the army to go home. You are still one of the lucky ones that will be part of the army to defend your nation.

This scenario plays itself out a couple of time, until there is only about 300 men left. The hope that you had to win this battle is all but gone, you are starting to shake in your sandals, but still you keep a little bit of faith. You do however think how crazy this Gideon is, this man that was nothing before this battle.

All of a sudden this man comes from another session of quiet time, and he tells these 300 men to leave their swords at home.

What the heck!

Is this man totally crazy?

After the battle these 300 men can’t stop talking about how amazing God is. That He helped them defeat this army with vases filled with fire and some trumpets. All of these men have forgotten about the doubt that they had before they walked into this battle, with no weapons but musical instruments.

If you read the Bible, it is filled with heretics. With people that went against all common sense, but in the end did great things. These people changed their immediate world by being a heretic. By going against everything they are told to do by the authorities at the time.

Why did they do it?

To understand why Gideon was completely obedient to what God told is, is probably because God showed Himself to Gideon through the sheep skin, without a doubt, and Gideon simply did not have any other choice but to have faith.

In the day we live in, we seldom get confirmation like Gideon did, but do we still have faith to follow God’s call? When God says go, do we go, or do we rather say things like: what about my job, what about my family, what about this, what about that?

I firmly believe we need to get back to following the heretics of out time. By following those that does the easy thing, we are missing out on so much. There is more to life than sitting in a office all day, dreaming about doing other things. If you truly believe you have to do something, go after it, in spite of what the person in the cubicle next to you say.

Disclaimer: By no means am I saying that doing a normal job is wrong, it is after all also given by God. I simply encounter so many people in my life that want something else, but are to afraid to pursue their God given dreams.
